Tony Gwynn rookie cards are found in the 1983 baseball card sets from Topps, Donruss, and Fleer. He only has three rookie cards as he did not appear in the Topps Traded set from 1982 or 1983. His rookie cards are as follows: 1983 Donruss Tony Gwynn rookie card #598, 1983 Fleer Tony Gwynn rookie #360, and 1983 Topps Tony Gwynn rookie card #482.
1983 is the year in baseball cards of Tony Gwynn rookie cards. Tony Gwynn is a member of the baseball hall of fame and stands out in my memory as a solid hitter as he lead the San Diego Padres in batting average for many years. He was not a power hitter nor would he steal many bases, but he sure could hit the ball consistently for a high batting average. His rookie cards consist of ones from 1983 Fleer, 1983 Topps and 1983 Donruss (as indicated above). He is considered to be a great rookie card in 1983 and is one of the big three with Ryne Sandberg and Wade Boggs being the other two major rookies in the 1983 cards. Julio Franco is also another great rookie card from that year.
His rookie cards are in the card years that also contain rookies of Julio Franco (in some of the brands, not all of them), Ryne Sandberg and Wade Boggs. Those are the highlights of other cards you can receive in boxes and sets of this year. Also, there is a second year Cal Ripken Jr. card along with all of the other stars and hall of famers and lesser known rookie cards. 1983 Topps baseball cards can be found at the link below.
As a collector and as someone who knows a bit about the hobby, investing in hall of fame rookie cards is popular among collectors. With Tony Gwynn, that is no different in my opinion. His rookie cards are great to have and some unopened material from 1983 is also fun to open if you can afford it. It is not too outrageously priced when compared with other years and the three big rookie cards are hall of famers.
If you aren't a member of Ebay, please join for free and get great deals on cards. I have been a member of for several years and I recommend it. Be careful with listings that say a card is a rookie card when in fact it isn't, unfortunately a lot of sellers on there are not honest. I recommmend avoiding those. http://www.mybaseballcardspace.info/football_box
